Host and Guest Reviews for Stays

Reviews are critical to help build trust on Ministays. They’re an important way for Hosts and guests to give each other feedback, help our community make informed decisions, and understand what to expect when making plans. We believe that a fair review system is one that respects and protects our community’s genuine feedback. That’s why we have a number of safeguards in place to help build trust in our reviews system.

Who can leave a review on MiniStays

Guests can only leave reviews for stays that have been booked and paid for on MiniStays.

When can reviews be submitted and published

Guests can leave a review anytime  after checkout.. Guests can also leave a review for certain reservations that are canceled on or after the day of check-in.

If a Host cancels a reservation before the day of check-in, the Guest will not be able to leave a review.

How to leave a review

After your stay, MiniStays will send an email asking you to leave a review for your most recent Host. Within the email, there will be a link to the Reviews page so you can share how your stay went with other community members. If you can’t find the link in your email, you can also write a review directly on MiniStays:

  • If you’re a guest, go to your “My Stays” page and find the Reservation you’d like to leave a review for

Note: MiniStays may collect some of your information. (example: your city and country, date of stay, trip type, and length of stay). MiniStays does this to show other guests on the listing’s Reviews page. To hide this type of information, contact us.

Are reviews moderated?

MiniStays doesn’t moderate reviews before they’re published.

However, reviews do need to be honest and relate to a genuine reservation. Any review may be removed if they violate our Reviews Policy. In short, this means that a review may be removed if:

  • It violates MiniStays’s Content Policy—for example, it includes private or confidential information, discriminatory, violent or threatening content
  • It is biased—for example, because the guest has been incentivized to leave a positive review in return for a free or discounted stay. Or, where there are signals that the reservation was made for the sole purpose of inflating a person’s overall rating
  • It is irrelevant—for example, it doesn’t contain firsthand information about the Host, guest, or stay that would help other community members make informed booking or hosting decisions.
  • It is retaliatory–for example, a Host reports a guest for a serious rule violation and, as a result, the guest leaves a biased review to retaliate against the Host.

We also have a detection system that proactively looks for signs that a review may not relate to a genuine stay. If our system detects that a review is likely to be fake—for example, because it doesn’t relate to a genuine stay on MiniStays or because it relates to a stay that was solely made to inflate a person’s ratings—it’ll be removed.

Removing a review

You can’t remove a review, but you can report it if you think it violates our Reviews Policy. These reviews will be removed if they violate our Reviews Policy, and both guest and Host will be informed of this decision upon removal. The policy is to protect the integrity of our review system by allowing for removal of reviews that are fake, irrelevant, or manipulated. But, we always encourage people’s subjective view of a stay to be shared with other members of the community.

You can remove a review you published if it no longer reflects your genuine experience as a guest or Host. You can reach out to our customer support team with your request to remove a review you’ve authored.

Review display, search, and sorting

By default, reviews appear in chronological order, with the most recent review shown first.

Review Ratings

For every review, you’ll find the overall star rating given by the guests, on a scale from 1 to 5. This is to help guests understand what to expect and provide Hosts with  areas to improve.

Guests can leave reviews for their Stays by going to their reservations page. Hosts can view Guest reviews by going to their Listing Profile or their Host Dashboard and viewing the Reservation.
